From the Pastor...

Dear Church Family,

I am writing to express gratitude to you for the many expressions of kindness you have demonstrated 

oward me in my absence.  First, let me thank each of you for your prayer support and expressions of concern during my recovery period.  I have received emails, notes on Facebook, get-well cards, phone calls, visits and a creamy/scrumptious silk chocolate pie.  I even received cards from folks who don’t worship here regularly, but went out of their way to let me know of their concern.  I am greatly humbled by your kindness and the on-going wonderful privilege to serve as your pastor.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention the incredible support I’ve received from Treva.  I endearingly refer to her as the warden.  She runs a very tight ship!  She adds a new dimension to the concept of being a strict constructionist.  She follows the rule book and has provided a high level of supervision to ensure that I have as well.  During the first week following surgery, she set her alarm every 4 hours though the night to get me to take a pain pill.  I objected, “If I’m sleeping don’t wake me up.”  She responded, “They told me for you not to skip taking this medication.”  Who knows, Treva may have preferred that I remain in a sleeping state.

At one point during the week as I thought about the outpouring of your support, I had the passing thought that if you knew me better you probably wouldn’t like me as well.  Fortunately, that is erroneous thinking.  Your love for me has nothing to do with me.  It has everything to do with the kind of people you are.

One of the character traits of Henly Baptist Church is love.  As a family of faith, we don’t just talk about grace, we routinely demonstrate it.  Grace is not just something we long to experience.  Because we have experienced it, God’s grace filters through our lives and we pass it on to others.  It doesn’t get any better than that.
